The perfect couple - Nantucket mystery

Do you enjoy books that can transport you to a different place? Would you like a glimpse into the lives of the very wealthy of Nantucket island? Would you like a mystery where not only you cannot figure out what happened, most of the characters also don't?

Elin Hilderbrand's book The Perfect couple has a few couples who all appear perfect on surface but what lurks beneath? Just as a young couple is about to be married in Nantucket, a corpse washes up.

The entire wedding party goes under scrutiny by the local police who uncover several secrets. But how did the murder actually happen?

The storyline is non-linear and goes back and forth to the present day investigation, to two years ago when the couple from the wedding first met, to a few months ago to the bachelorette party and to a few days ago when the bride truly explores Nantucket island but not in the company of the groom.

You will enjoy the buffet of characters in this interwoven mystery. The bride is a lovely girl who works in a zoo, the groom is a wealthy heir, the bride's mother has been diagnosed with tumour, the groom's father is a rich businessman, the bridesmaid is her spunky best friend, the groom's mother is a famous mystery novelist and the police detective looking into the case is a serial charmer.

The setting of the story is very visual from the elegant food to the rich decor of the groom's Nantucket home and the special spot in the beach with a tricky tide one can have fun with. By the end of this book, my travel destinations wishlist now has Nantucket in it.

The mystery of the novel was not easy to unravel. As the secrets spilled, I had my guesses on who might have committed the murder but I was wrong. The only improvement I can think to this book is that it could have been edited a little more to make the story telling crisper.

Despite the darkness of the murder I think this book will make a fantastic holiday read. After you read the book, let me know in the comments section below if you guessed the ending or not! No spoilers though, shhh.
