Is Harry Potter a children's book?

It has been a decade since the end of the series and even after reading a couple of hundreds of books meanwhile, the Harry Potter series remains my one absolute favourite. You may ask - "After all this time?" and I would reply - "Always". 💓

I understand that fantasy as a genre may not be for everyone, but I still think there are valuable lessons around racism, sexism, classism, tolerance and  prejudice in this series.

It saddens me when this series gets mindlessly discounted as "children's books". The relevance of this series is even higher in today's intolerant world that when it first released, across age groups.

If you don't have time to read my full blog post or to read this book series, choose the simple and lazy option of watching the blockbuster movie from 2018, like millions around the world did. The reason I loved this movie was because it illustrated how to accept defeat gracefully, twice!!

In short, my review for you is that this series is no literary wonder nor is it an emotional roller coaster but it is very successful at showcasing the decadent lives of Crazy Rich Asians in a highly entertaining fashion. So if you are considering a book to read over your upcoming beach holiday, this is a perfect choice!

Author Colleen Hoover, the Queen of heart wrenching

No one writes male leads like Colleen Hoover. Though the characters are usually on the younger side, they are mature, achingly sweet, respectful, hot and so ardent. These men don't do things in half measures, be it pursuing their passion, friendship, family bonds, anger and definitely not love.

Any girl who is single and looking for a partner will experience a significant and unrealistic heightening in expectations after reading Colleen Hoover's books.  You will want to meet these men, get to know them and I won't be surprised if you want to marry them.

Why I highly recommend the Andy Carpenter series! ⚖️

I came across the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt a couple of years ago through the London library and found the author's style of writing highly enjoyable. Presenting grisly murder 
mysteries and court room drama with a sense of humour is surely worth applauding!

Andy Carpenter is a criminal defence attorney based in New Jersey and the books revolve around cases that he accepts grudgingly, investigates thoroughly and defends in court entertainingly.

A friend of mine recommended the awesome movie Kill Bill to me a decade ago. After several discussions and movie dialogue exchanges, his next recommendation was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (TGWTDT). I will always be grateful for the recommendation. This book follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, who pursues the mystery of a girl who went missing over three decades ago. Lisbeth Salander, a hacker with a dragon tattoo, also gets involved in solving this mystery. What history do they unearth?

The best books of Kristan Higgins

Do you find chick-lit or romance novels to be uni-dimensional? I find myself getting bored when the plot line consists of a romance only, even within the chick-lit genre. I seek more from the reading experience than just butterflies, rainbows and unicorns.

Kristan Higgins books were the solution. Her books are about a woman's (or 2/3 women's) self development journey but dealt with in an entertaining, amusing and spunky manner. It often involves making peace with her family, old friends, old enemies, baggage from her history and finally with her own self. And of course, a part of her journey is her romantic life and like in real life, romance forms a part of her journey and does not dominate her life. Overall, a very balanced and realistic approach.
